While Senegal is one of Africa’s most stable countries, it is still one of the poorest countries in the world. According to UNESCO, the country’s children bear the worst effects of poverty, with 40 percent of schoolchildren dropping out of primary school. The figures are much worse for secondary education, with only 43.2 percent of girls and 34.5 percent of boys finishing school. To bridge this gap and safeguard Senegal’s future, fundraising for Senegal schools is a key part of our vision.
Beyond Education
Founded in 2015, the Global Educational Institute of Science (GEIS) has gone from sponsoring a handful of students in Dakar to being one of the premier charities for Senegal education. Accordingly, our vision and mission have also evolved over the years to include causes like providing clean food and water and sponsoring internship opportunities for students of schools in the program.
To succeed in the long term, school-based charity has to go beyond the classroom and into the wider environment. Necessities like water and food supply, while not directly involved in academics, can significantly affect a child’s health and concentration in class. As such, GEIS not only strives to provide clean and reliable water to schools but also ensures families and neighboring communities benefit.
Moreover, according to the US Agency for International Development (USAID), Senegal has worryingly high rates of childhood malnutrition, with around 66 percent of children under five suffering from anemia. In most cases, children who experience malnutrition are more likely to perform poorly at school or even drop out of school completely. In this regard, GEIS uses fundraising for Senegal schools to try to facilitate as many nutritional and health interventions as we can, targeting both the students and their communities.
Joining Hands
There is no doubt that Senegal has great growth potential as a country. As the country grows, it is imperative that its children do not remain behind. At the Global Educational Institute of Science, we encourage fundraising for Senegal schools to ensure that every child has access to a quality and life-changing education. You, too, can participate in this noble cause by donating to our various programs and causes.
